About this random number generator

Need a number between 1 and 10, a set of raffle ticket numbers, a random sample for a survey, or a fair way to decide who goes first? This generator picks numbers uniformly at random within any range, one at a time or thousands at once.

It uses your browser's cryptographically secure random generator and an unbiased method for mapping random values into your range, so every number has exactly the same chance of being picked.

How to use the Random Number Generator

  1. Enter the minimum and maximum (both included).
  2. Choose how many numbers you need.
  3. Tick "no repeats" for unique numbers, and "sort" to order them.
  4. Click Generate.

Fair randomness

Simple methods like taking a random value modulo the range size slightly favor some numbers. This tool uses rejection sampling to remove that bias, so the results are uniform. With "no repeats", numbers are drawn without replacement, like pulling balls from a bag.

Worked example

Drawing 6 unique numbers from 1 to 49 might give 4, 17, 23, 31, 38, 46 — each combination is equally likely.

Tips for better results

  • For drawing names instead of numbers, use the list randomizer.
  • Record the result (or a screen recording) when running a public giveaway for transparency.
